New 24 Karat Gold CD-R and DVD-R Discs Retain Data for 100-300 YearsAs quoted in a recent PC Magazine article, a Harris Interactive poll found that 35 percent of consumers neglect to make backup copies of digital content stored on their computers, even though 50 percent have lost important data in the past. Even the "smart ones" who back up their important documents and photos multiple times use standard silver CD-Rs or DVD-Rs. These only have a shelf-life of approximately 10 years if stored in ideal conditions and handled properly. However, saving data on a disc is not the problem; what that disc is made out of is. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab to the rescue. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab has created the 24 Karat Gold ULTRADISC CD-R and DVD-R that can retain its specifications for up to 300 years and 100 years, respectively. The MoFi UltraDisc DVD-Rs sell for $59.99 for 25 discs ($2.40 per disc) and the DVD-R sells for $99 for 25 discs ($4 per disc).
